Katatonia Death Doom Metal (Early) / Progressive Doom Metal / Gothic Rock
Sweden
Katatonia is a great band of the Swedish scene formed in 1991 by Jonas Renkse and Anders Nyström ( Diabolical Masquerade, Bloodbath ), which makes it very important to this band is their degree of experimentation that although there has been a low-risk has resulted in a success. Starting from the beginning as it should, we find the priemer albun of the band, developing a doom metal sound very deep, with influences from death and black metal, very depressing atmospheres, themes taken from the black metal and guttural voice by Renkse, sound take only your next job and it would be completely abandoned after the band.
After a break from both of their other bands due to lack of musicians to complete the band finally returned to make a change to the style, the first thing to consider is the limitation by Renkse to able to growl and who had injured the previous tours, and the desire to explore within the horizons of the genre, but it is still a bit above the line and called Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth to handle the guttural in this shift is a step of what would come forward by adopting more gothic and progressive tones, this line is recorded Brave Murder Day and Sounds of Decay.
encuantra After this change of direction, and my favorite stage of the band, and although this is very good, very special music event that took as its style. Fully adopting the style of progressive rock and gothic doom, completely disregarding the guttural with Renkse now developing a clean tone that improves with every album, the addition of synthesizers and a guitar more cumbersome and complex. From now on you will hear a sound highly developed, they know that the truth will do well, but more melancholy tones wing time making the music more accessible, or rather analyzable. In particular The Great Cold Distance, with melodies very progressive, but without neglecting the enormous influence of doom and gothic in the music giving it a dark, although this description fits all the albums from Tonight's Desicion to Night Is The New Day, this is my favorite, especially the songs "My Twin" and "Deliberaton." In conclusion, an excellent band you can not ignore.
